Going Wii All the Way Home

This Christmas, our staff "Blue Jeans Club" used a portion of their dues to purchase a Wii video game system for our residents.  Already a popular fixture in Riverview's Restorative Care & Therapy Department, our residents are having  a ball figuring out how to play baseball, bowl, and participate in a myriad of other activities - regardless of the temperature outside.

About the Blue Jeans Club: If you happen to visit Riverview on a Friday, you may have noticed our staff's printed scrub tops and blue jeans. Each week, any staff member wishing to participate in "casual Friday" contributes to the "Blue Jeans Fund," Riverview's charitable piggy bank. Past recipients of this fund have included the Flandreau Bread Basket (food pantry) and local families needing help with medical and other related expenses. The fund has continued to grow with each pair of jeans worn, and Riverview's staff has even shared the bounty with our residents as well, sponsoring a McDonald's Lunch Day in 2009, as well as the recent Wii purchase. 

From calling bingo numbers to drumming in the rhythm band, Iva Erickson stays pretty busy and involved.  When the scent of sweet baked goods wafts through Riverview in the evening or early in the morning, it's pretty likely you will find Iva in the activity room's kitchen preparing some fabulous delight.  Recently, she made chow mein chocolate cookies.  As good as that sounds, you should see what she'll do when the rhubarb harvest comes in!!

In addition to her baking prowess, Iva is also a champion baby holder.  Here, she holds CNA & Med Tech Lynnette Bobtailbear's newborn granddaughter.
