A Healthy Start Indeed!

Dolly Keehn received a spring surprise when her granddaughter Sherry and great-granddaughter Shanna stopped by for a Sunday visit and special breakfast. On their way to the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe's Healthy Start Wacipi, Shanna just couldn't resist showing her great-grandma her fancy shawl in action!

Jingling All the Way to Our Hearts

Angela Brokate's family also stopped by Riverview on their way to FSST's Healthy Start Wacipi. While showing off their beautiful jingle dresses made by granddaughter (and Riverview nurse) Ashley Ross, these little ladies produced a fabulous cacophony of joyous jingles that delighted our residents! Ashley's daughter, Zaeda, is pictured above, dancing at the wacipi, and below with friend Sally Peper.

Happy Birthday, Mick!

Mick Ramsdell celebrated his 87th birthday surrounded by friends, family, and fabulous cake.

It may look like a pretty rowdy bunch, but those are usually the most fun!

Oh, Hello, Dolly!

This year, Dolly Keehn was so nice, she celebrated her birthday twice!

As if one could even begin to celebrate her phenomenal 106 years just once?!?

Dolly's first party, held on her actual calendar birthday, included cake and a family gathering. The next day, Dolly's family surprised her with another festive gathering that not only honored Dolly's milestone, but celebrated the birthday of her daughter Lois as well. Happy Birthday, Dolly and Lois, with many more to come!

If you saw 106 candles on a cake, you'd need sunglasses too!

'Twas the Season of Christmas

Riverview's residents may appreciate presents under the tree, but it's another gift that they truly hold dear . . . a gift that can't be wrapped, purchased, or ever returned: the gift of family. This Christmas, many of our residents shared the joys of the holiday season with their loved ones, and these captured family moments illustrate the following:

"The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other."
~ author Burton Hillis ~

Alice DeBoer added another notch to her "Century Club" belt during her recent 104th birthday celebrations. From a ladies luncheon with friends to a family gathering (with daughters Mae and Mary, granddaughters Tara and Trisha, and cousin Marilyn), this was truly a great way to start another blessed year!

Tricks and Treats at Riverview!

After a great evening at our Great Pumpkin Masquerade Ball, some of Riverview's friends, family, and staff decided to treat (and trick) our residents once more, stopping to visit throughout Halloween day and into the evening. Manned with candy and smiles, our resident greeters enjoyed the costumes and spooktacular personas of our distinguished visitors. These photos are just a sampling - a fun-size version - of the many visiting tricksters!
